"Ten of ten points given for this album? Although the first track is just made of splashing? Sure, why not? You have to face this album in its entire context in order to reveal its whole mystical and musical power. Cedar Spirits is a collaboration between the artists Pythagamus Olaf Marshall (Novemthree) and Chet W. Scott (Cycle of the Raven Talons), which maybe are known to those who love ritual and nature inspired music. In fact the whole album is very quiet, with acoustic (and also unusual) instruments, that are responsable for the organic and natural sound. They used the mountain dulcimer, Sacred Horns and the ocarina just to name a few. Due to the field recordings like twitter and splashing, you can imagine dwelling in green fields and meadows. For myself Cedar Spirits embodys freedom, summer and the conjointness with mother earth. Especially the track "Soar" makes you feel this strength. In the first place it is a very positive work - the sunwheel (a symbol of light) on the inside of the "6x6" gatefold verifies this. The physical release is also something special because of its remarkable size, motifs from the woods and at last the wonderful uncoated paper with flat brown foil stamping. Indeed the fire for Cedar Spirits sparks not before listening several times to it, but i believe that's the reason for what makes it such a masterpiece to me!
