D. R. I have never had such an album transport me to other dimensions as this one has. The album guides you on a psychedelic journey that starts out very organic and becomes more and more otherworldly... Favorite track: A Beautiful Head In 5ive Movements.
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

One of the more original and perhaps accessible ambient albums I've heard in recent years. Highly recommended!

Completely and beautifully tranquil and mesmerizing!

The world turns askew as the hallucinations take hold with the fine of the performance as kaleidoscoping bellows pump odd shaped sounds to a yawning sitar. Droning ambiance breaks the fungal feast into funereal company buoyed by deathly organ and disarming presence of songbird before guitars snap the grave from your mind. Guitars continue to feature prominently as does keyboard and vintage organ, which hints of the twisted carnival of Cintecele Diavolui, and overall the effect remains hypnotic and oneiric.

There is a lot about this record that you don't realize until you get to the end of it. The opening part of the disc uses pure acoustic guitar tones, but gradually that shifts until you realize the last part of the disc hasn't had any acoustic its been clean electric. Subtle little things like that really help steer the listener through this amorphous journey they have crafted. The build up of the album is really nice, and so gradual you barely notice until you think back to the opening moments and realize how different what you are hearing is from that. This is a truly inspired piece of composition and craft that really is a unique entry into the realm of experimental ambient and primitive folk music.
    ----WORM GEAR

It is refreshing to hear an album that creates a musical world of its own. This album has a sense of its own and sounds different to almost everything else. It has a strong sense of melody and structure which enhances its appeal. However it balances sonic diversity with continuity and so whilst varied does feel coherent.

Although often solemn the album is never dour. Instead it seems a meditation on environment although perhaps on this album it is a slightly more surreal imagined one than on the other Glass Throat Recordings albums. It is delightful to hear such excellent musicianship harnessed to interesting and inventive settings. Your appreciation of the music is further supported by the beautiful packaging of the album with a calocybe drawn landscape, runic symbols and excellent presentation. This is true of all their releases and is to be commended.

Another solid offering from a label that refuses to deal in stereotypes!

Musically The Elemental Chrysalis is unlike anything I've ever heard - and that is one of the highest compliments I could give a recording. This is music of powerful quietude and quiet power...Very earthy and very ethereal.

Released Summer Solstice 2005 & packaged in Glass Throat's signature 6 panel over sized gate fold design.

Featuring the debut of James Woodhead's brilliantly surreal visionary illustrations!

The debut album featuring Chet W. Scott (CYCLE OF THE RAVEN TALONS) & James Woodhead (AT THE HEAD OF THE WOODS). The ELEMENTAL CHRYSALIS gift a truly elemental & metaphysical journey entitled "The Calocybe Collection." The collection showcases six ghostly wooded spirits, droning in at 76 minutes of epic Lo-Fi "Avant-Funeral Folk."

"The Calocybe Collection" is pregnant with "heavy" mournful classical orchestrations & acoustic hallucinatory drones! A beautifully intense experience, conjuring vast forests of fog quilted mushrooms & darkened paths of self discovery.
