Announcing a Blood of the Black Owl / Samaritan Press collaboration, “Spirit Canoe : Soaring the Shadow Spiral”

Every aspect of this collaborative release was crafted with our collective heart and hands. Showcasing all original visions crafted from the profound artistry of David V. D'Andrea. All components printed & assembled in-house at ~Samaritan Press~ Olympia, WA MMXXIII.

This release features the following artifacts:

- A 12"x12” two color letterpress print by DV D’Andrea. This drawing was drawn by hand with direct transmission from the Spirit Canoe. It was printed on the C&P platen press (mfg 1910) with foot pumped treadle on 100% cotton rag paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 150.

- A custom cassette box printed in gold letterpress on black stock with booklet cover featuring custom illustrations throughout.

- Hand stamped and numbered upon vintage antiquated gold cassette shells.

As a seeker, and long standing solitary practitioner of a path I keep safe within, this collection of ecstatic trance work has become another turn of the great wheel-- a musical memoir if you will, within the light and darkness of personal growth; a collection of experience, not a destination! My heart honors love and longing, and being in awe of the conduit that mystery has given my spirit within the four winds of this medicinal musical.

A journey of acoustic, worldly soundscapes performed as an intense and sometimes brutal aural cleanse; devotional, sacral crafts of my own deepening path towards well-being and natural spirituality: this collection of two works in three movements, and my craft as a whole, is not of religion and thus should never be confused with such particular programs of monotheistic or even polytheistic practice(s).

My intentions offer a strict implementation of authentic hand-crafted ceremonial & ritual instrumentation. A movement with focus on the being through somatic sacred breath-- a flowing music that spirals from the still emptiness of a once-intellectualized self toward that of a primordial embodiment.

All soundscapes composed, performed, recorded, mixed and produced by Chet W. Scott.

Recorded using a sound console without the use of software simulation and trickery at Glass Throat Recordings on the unceded ancestral lands of the first people of the Dkhw Duw’Absh, (Duwamish Tribe), past and present. I raise up with honor and gratitude the Coast Salish land itself and the Dkhw Duw’Absh. June of MMXIV.

(SIDE A: CASSETTE)

Originally titled "Spirit Canoe: Hailing Father Sky" this ritual was initially recorded back in February of 2011 during the "Light the Fires!" sessions and was intended to be an exclusive opening ritual to the "Light the Fires!" vinyl format, replacing the CD version "Caller of Spirits." The vinyl format was never released for "Light the Fires!" and the Spirit Canoe offering hibernated till now. In October of 2013, "Spirit Canoe" was offered as a track within a digital compilation showcased through Heathen Harvest. It was entitled "Samhainwork II."

"Soaring the Shadow Spiral" was a private ritual performance captured live during a remote retreat outdoors within the old growth wilderness January of 2014. It was later detailed and finished at Glass Throat Recordings on the unceded ancestral lands of the first people of the Dkhw Duw’Absh, (Duwamish Tribe), past and present.

Both of these ceremonial works were released together as a digital EP (GTR-023) back in 2014 through Glass Throat Recordings.

This is the very first time they have been showcased through any tangible format. I have edited together both works to flow as one journey for Side A of this cassette release.

“Cursed Be All Missionaries!” is an audible Nidstang captured live during liminal state of November 1st, 2020 and set into movement at exactly 12:00am PDT.

"Cursed Be All Missionaries!" was a private ritual performance that was later detailed and finished at Glass Throat Recordings of Coast Salish / Duwamish lands.

All Instrumentation, voices and authentic ritual implements: Composed, performed, recorded / mixed and produced by sole member Chet W. Scott (2020).

The craft was initially offered for a musical compilation benefitting the Yanomami Tribe and was released December 20, 2020 through the Orb Weaver Collective.
